Important information about gluing sound-absorbing and sound-blocking panels. As well as the work with this.

Important information about the bonding of sound absorbers and sound blockers
absorbents and the work with this.

Responsibility

The building owner/homeowner is the responsible builder and is responsible for planning and preparing the areas/building site unless otherwise agreed in writing with the installer/contractor/builder or other person representing them. The developer is responsible for determining the desired location of absorbers and changes to other facilities such as ventilation, electrical etc. The developer is responsible for carrying out a final inspection with the installer immediately after installation is complete.

HMS

It is emphasised that the work must be carried out in a safe and secure manner for all parties. It must therefore be respected that areas that are being worked on are cordoned off while the work is in progress and the fitters are allowed to work undisturbed and without unnecessary interference. The developer is partly responsible for this. The developer also provides toilets and dining rooms.

What result can you expect?

Acoustic result for reverberation

If sound measurements have been taken in the room/area and these form the basis for calculating the necessary amount (m2) of sound-absorbing panels to be installed, you can expect the result to be +/- 5 % in relation to the desired result. This is checked by means of a reverberation measurement (RT60) after completed installation. It is assumed that the calculated amount is installed. Often the acoustics are a much bigger problem than you normally realise and if it is installed according to our calculations and instructions, the result will be a marked change.

Especially regarding step sound

Impact sound is often a problem. How the floor separation/floor construction between floors is realised has a major impact on the damping of impact sound.

The problem can be solved by installing Loke DB or Eira DB in the ceiling, which normally achieves a good result. In newer
buildings, it is normal to use impact sound-absorbing elements between floors. Structural sound where the sound follows other paths and spreads via beams, walls and ceilings will require additional measures. This occurs in both new and old buildings. Developers should therefore gain insight into how ceilings and walls are constructed.

Visual result

To achieve the best results, the substrate must be even, clean, firm and stable before installation. Sound-absorbing panels are porous and therefore more vulnerable to impact and external influences than, for example, plasterboard. This must therefore be taken into account both in terms of placing the panels and treating the panels afterwards. If the surface on which the panels are installed is uneven, it will make it difficult to achieve a completely perfect installation with perfectly smooth transitions between the panels. The panels are not flexible and therefore cannot be pressed or bent to fit the surface. This means that deviations will occur. In order for the installation to appear virtually perfect, the substrate must be free of unevenness and distortions.

To achieve perfect installations, it will therefore be necessary to level the substrate before the panels are installed. Fitters and builders can normally provide advice on this, but it is up to the builder to make the final decision on whether the substrate is ready for installation or not.

Other

The installer cannot be aware of weaknesses in the substrate and the structure behind it. The client must familiarise themselves with the construction of the substrate and any weaknesses. If necessary, he/she must take the initiative to clarify this before the installation is initiated. If the roof is covered with stretched roofing felt, this must be removed before installation. Loose paint, levelling compound, etc. must be removed before installation.

Note regarding odour

The absorbers may smell upon receipt. Usually the odour is steamed off in the factory and warehouse before they reach the customer. This is because organic and biodegradable binders are used in the boards when they are pressed, which is completely harmless. Any odour usually disappears within a few days.
after installation. If necessary, the builder can open the boxes for ventilation upon receipt and before installation.

Notification

When placing and installing absorbers in connection with fire detectors, detectors, etc. the guidelines in NS3960 must be followed.

If in doubt, contact professionals.
